Architect, Landscape Architect

Ursa Komac

Ursa Komac is the Director of Academic Program in Architecture at Western Sydney University. She is a registered architect and landscape architect from Slovenia and holds a PhD from UPC Barcelona, where she was a Marie Curie Fellow. She worked in the office of Imma Jansana and has for more than 20 years’ experience in architectural practice from Spain, Slovenia, the USA and Australia. She received the Piranesi Award for the Rest areas for the Bicycle Paths in the Slovene Karst. Her co-authored monograph on Bogdan Bogdanovic was published by Mudito & Co. in Barcelona and was translated into German. She has taught design studios and history at the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya, Boston Architectural College, the University of Sydney and then became Assistant Professor at the University of Canberra. She was Visiting Fellow at the Tokyo University of the Arts, exploring connections between academia and practice. Her Observation Points in Skocjanski Zatok were nominated for Mies van der Rohe Award in 2017 and were selected for the 9th International Biennial of Landscape Architecture when James Corner was the President of the Jury. They were published in the monograph Tomorrow Landscapes by Paysage Editore in Milan in 2018. Her research interests are architecture and the city, public space, heritage and architectural education.
